Crafting Ideas into Reality

Keeping your home clean can take a lot of time and effort, so I’m always on the lookout for good house cleaning tips. My job takes up a lot of my time during the week so I usually do most of my house cleaning on Sunday. I’m sure everyone loves having a clean and organized house , so I wanted to share some painless way to keep your home endlessly clean!

You may not realize how much dirt, dust and grime your kitchen cabinets collect. You can easily bring your kitchen back to life, and make your cabinets look brand new by removing food particles and dirt stuck to the surface of your cabinet’s. Use microfiber cloth, soft brush or a duster to remove cobwebs, gritty dust and other stuck-on particles. I like using Formby’s Deep Cleaning Build Up Remover to clean my cabinets.

Wipe Baseboards With Dryer Sheets

Take a dryer sheet and gently wipe along the baseboards.  In just a few minutes, your baseboards will be clean and dust free. Doing this will also help keep your baseboards dust free for quite sometime because the dryer sheet actually coats as it cleans for residual dust-fighting power.

This cleaning tip is also great for those homes with pets to help pick up pet hair.  Using a dryer sheet on your baseboards will not only help repel pet hair, but generally keep the things that get tracked in and out of your home off the walls and on the floor where it can be swept up.

Oil Wooden Cutting Boards

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of wooden cutting boards because they seem to a breeding ground for bacteria. With that being said, wooden cutting boards are still incredibly popular. It’s important to maintain your cutting board, by cleaning it and oiling it on a regular basis. When I was the Cleaning Department Manager, the most popular product for maintaining wooden cutting boards was Howard’s Butcher Block Oil and Howard’s Butch Block Conditioner.

Rain Repellent For The Shower

If you have a glass shower door, than you most likely know all about the hard water spots that remain on the glass. It can make a clean shower, look dirty. There’s a great product called Rain X that is designed to be used on car windshields so that water will bead up and run down the glass. Fortunately, this product also works well on glass shower doors. They make Rain X specifically for shower doors, which you can find here.

Replace Your Furnace Filter

Furnace filters have multiple purposes. They protect the furnace and clean the air circulating through the house which contributes to good health and well-being. According to the EPA, indoor air pollutants are one of the top five environmental health risks today. Replacing your furnace filter on a regular basis will help to minimize the amount of dust that accumulates and improve your air quality. Make sure to check out our article on ‘how often should you change your furnace filter‘.

Wash Your Shower Curtain Liner

Just because your shower curtain liner gets dirty or mildewed, that doesn’t mean you have to throw it away! You can save yourself money by throwing it in the washing machine with a little bit of bleach or vinegar. Put your washer on the gentle cycle and it will come out looking brand new.

Buy a Roomba

Can I just tell you how much I LOVE my roomba? I run it during the day while I’m at work and I come home to clean floors on a daily basis. I have two dogs, and dark hardwood floors so you can see dog hair everywhere, in addition to dust and dirt. I was skeptical at first because I wasn’t sure if it’d be able to get all of the corners and along the baseboards, but let me tell you…. it does a phenomenal job. Yes, Roomba’s are expensive, but you definitely get your money’s worth. I have the Roomba 985.

Drop In Toilet Tabs

I hate cleaning toilets, so anything that makes it easier, I’m all about it! There are little pods that you drop into the tank of your toilet. These pods will clean and deodorize your toilet bowl for months before eventually dissolving.
