Crafting Ideas into Reality

There are so many floor cleaners available for purchase, so how do you know which one will be most effective in addition to being safe for your hardwood floors? When it comes to cleaning my own hardwood floors, there’s only one product I’ll use and that’s Bona’s hardwood floor cleaner and polish.

To give you a little background, my entire home is either hardwood or tile which is amazing, right? Yes, except for the fact that I have 2 dogs and live in a state that gets all seasons of weather within one day. That means muddy dogs when it rains, and a film of salt/sand when it snows. I wanted a mop that was easy to use, and safe for my floors. That’s where Bona hardwood floor cleaner and mop comes in…

Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner

Bona, pronounced (bone-uh) is a floor care company that was founded in Sweden over 90 years ago. The brand has become well known and is available for purchase in over 70 different countries. They’re especially known for their renowned hardwood floor cleaner.

Bona’s Hardwood Floor Cleaner has received a lot of recognition. Bona’s proprietary formulation provides a complete clean by gently and effectively removing dust, dirt and grime. It’s safe to use on any un-waxed, polyurethane finished wood floors. It dries very quickly and doesn’t leave any film or residue.

Bona Hardwood Floor Polish

Bona’s Hardwood Floor Polish restores the shine while offering protection against wear.  The durable, urethane acrylic blend has an exceptionally fast dry time and no waxy build-up. Adds a high gloss protective layer and fills in micro-scratches, evening out the appearance of your floor for a refreshed new look.

I personally didn’t have any issues with this product, but a lot of my customers have been dissatisfied with Bona’s floor polish. They say it leaves white streaks and that it’s hard to remove.

As I said earlier, I’ve never had any issues with this floor polish. The before and after pictures give you an idea of how shiny the floor can be. I used the high gloss polish, and it was definitely shiny the next day with no white streaks or residue. The only reason I gave it 3 out of 5 stars was because of the number of customers I’ve had that dislike the product.

GreenGuard Certified

Bona’s floor care products are also GREENGUARD Gold certified. GREENGUARD is a non-profit, third-party organization that tests indoor products for their environmental impact in an effort to improve the air quality consumers breathe.

Its goal is to improve public health by helping manufacturers build safer, better products. These products will not pollute the air with harmful chemicals or particulates. GREENGUARD Gold Certification offers stricter certification criteria, considers safety factors to account for sensitive individuals and ensures that a product is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities.

UPDATE 01/29/2017:

A few days after applying the polish, I started to notice that our floors had a light white haze on them. Even after using the Bona hardwood floor cleaner, the haze was still visible. One of my frequent customers had the same problem. She came in to inform me that she contacted Bona directly and they sent her a stripper to remove the polish, along with a stripping pad, but the stripper didn’t completely remove the white haze. She also said that the person she spoke with at Bona, told her that the floor polish should really only be applied by a professional.

Honestly, I’m not comfortable recommending the floor polish, but I’m still confident about recommending the hardwood floor cleaner.

Final Thoughts

I really do love my Bona hardwood floor cleaner and mop and I’m sure you will too. I do however have another mop that I use for my kitchen tile, and you can read that review here. Also make sure to follow us on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.

  1. One thing about using Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner does the job well, it has a neutral pH, and it’s biodegradable and safe for your family. Although it’ll cost a little more than vinegar and water, your hardwood floors will thank you in the long run.
