Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist

1549 or OC-27 / LRV: 65

Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist is one of their best-selling paint colors. I consider it a “greige” because it has an equal mix of brown and gray. It’s such a versatile color because it looks beautiful as a primary wall color, or as an accent. It works best in an open floor plan because it looks like a consistent color throughout the day.

It has a light reflectance value of 65, which means a good amount of light is reflected. Keep in mind that this color will change depending on the time of day. While this color could be considered “off-white” it actually pairs very well with white trim.

In the example pictures below, you’ll see what Balboa Mist looks like in morning light, afternoon light, and ambient light. If you have a south-facing room, Balboa Mist can lean more brown, but if you have a north-facing room, Balboa Mist can lean on the grayer side.

Is Balboa Mist a warm or cool color?

Benjamin Moore’s Balboa Mist is a warm color. However, just about every color has an undertone and Balboa Mist is no exception. This color tends to have a hint of purple/pink undertones. North-facing rooms will bring out more of the purple undertones than it does in a south-facing room.

Balboa Mist pairs well with dark wood finishes and a nice, bright, crisp white. It’s so important to test this color in your own lighting. This is why I really like Samplize. Their peel and stick samples allow you to move the color around to different rooms and different lighting.
